REP. DAVID BARAM NAMED HOUSE CHAIR OF GENERAL LAW COMMITTEE
House Speaker-designate Brendan Sharkey (D-Hamden) has chosen Rep. David Baram (D-Bloomfield, Windsor) to serve as chairman of the General Law Committee.
“With David's extensive background as a lawyer and experience as vice-chairman of the General Law Committee, I can't think of anyone more suited for this important position,” Sharkey said. “David has demonstrated a wealth of talent in working with people on both sides of the aisle, and I am confident in his ability to lead the committee as its new chairman.”
Baram, who for the past two years has been the committee's vice-chairman, said he was honored to be a key member of Rep. Sharkey's leadership team and vowed to do everything possible to protect consumers in Connecticut.
“The General Law Committee provides vital oversight to protect consumers from fraud, misrepresentation and unethical conduct,” Baram said. “I intend to continue making sure that state laws give consumers the legal tools to address improper conduct and to provide people with the assurance that services are performed by licensed professionals.”
The committee has oversight of all matters relating to fair trade and sales practices, consumer protection, occupational licensing and mobile homes, and all matters dealing with alcoholic beverages.
Baram, who has represented the 15th Assembly District since March 2009, will also serve as a member on the legislature's Banks and Judiciary committees. He is also the managing member of the Bloomfield law firm of Baram, Tapper & Gans, LLC.
